Hitman 3 Support for ray tracing is underway for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, along with plans to bring graphics technology to PC.
Hitman 3 does not currently include ray tracing support on any platform, but IO Interactive confirmed ahead of launch that it is working on bringing it to PC in a future update. In a new Post to Xbox Wire Regarding the optimization of Hitman 3 for the Xbox Series X and S, Maurizio de Pascale, chief technology officer of IOI, said that this is also on the roadmap for Microsoft’s consoles.
“We consider Hitman to be a ‘live game’ and our launch date of January 20 is just the start of a journey, in which we will continue to work on the game and add new features,” explained Maurizio. “It’s great that the X Series GPU | S has hardware support for ray tracing. We’ve already started work on RT technology for our Glacier engine’s renderer, and once it’s deemed ready for prime time, we’ll definitely bring the X-series hardware | S. “
Elsewhere in the interview, de Pascale also discussed how the new console hardware allows Hitman 3 to update its NPCs more frequently and in greater numbers (meaning more people scream and start running when you drop a chandelier on your target), as well as simulate more detailed effects of cloth and destruction.
Better light and shadows are eagerly awaited for Xbox fans, although we have also reached out to IOI to see if ray tracing support is planned for the PS5 version of the game. We will update this story if and when the studio comes back to us.
