PS5 version accounted for almost half of sales

Hitman 3 took No. 1 on the UK charts, with launch sales up 17% from its predecessor.

Developed and owned by IO Interactive, Hitman 3’s boxed release was managed by Square Enix, the company that previously owned the franchise before letting it go. The latest game, Hitman 2 of 2018, was released by Warner Bros.

The PS5 version of the game was by far the dominant edition, accounting for 49% of sales. The Xbox version accounted for 27%, while the PS4 version accounted for 25%. Of course, these are just physical games, the majority of Hitman 3’s sales will have been in the digital download space.

Hitman’s debut at the top of the charts means Animal Crossing: New Horizons drops to No.2, although only 800 games separate the two titles. Animal Crossing sales fell 8% week after week.

Some new PS5 consoles hit the market last week, which has had a positive impact on a few titles. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is up 161% from # 12 to # 5, Demon’s Souls is re-entering the charts at # 27 with a 291% sales increase, and there has been an increase in sales for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (up 56% and powered by the PlayStation version) and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (up 7%, but with the PS5 version up 174%). In total, PS5 game sales have increased 324% week after week.

Another great riser was Ring Fit Adventure. The Nintendo Switch fitness game has often climbed the charts during the pandemic whenever new stocks hit the market. The game climbs to No. 7 with a 47% sales increase.
