Joe Biden’s inauguration festivities are set to officially begin on Saturday, with a concert celebrating “diversity,” followed by four more days filled with anti-Trump Hollywood celebrities including Eva Longoria, Kerry Washington, John Legend, Kal Penn and Debra Messing. .
The theme chosen by Biden for his inauguration is “America United,” although the roster of artistic talent, which includes Lady Gaga singing the national anthem, represents some of Hollywood’s most left-wing voices. Many events will be virtual in accordance with COVID-19 security protocols.
On Saturday, the celebration will officially begin with “America United: An Inauguration Welcome Event Celebrating America’s Change Makers.” The inauguration committee said the concert “will celebrate America, reflect and honor our history, and showcase the incredible diversity of the nation.” He will feature appearances by anti-Trump celebrity Whoopi Goldberg, Netflix Atypical actor Nik Dodani, actress Cristela Alonzo and actor Darren Criss.
Representative Grace Meng (D-NY) and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms (D) will also participate.
The Resistance Revival Choir is expected to perform during the concert. As the name suggests, the ensemble, made up of “non-binary” female singers, was founded against President Trump. Grammy-nominated group Black Pumas are also set to perform.
Other concerts leading up to the opening day include “United We Serve,” which will honor National Day of Service on January 18, and will include appearances by Diane Warren, Lynn Whitfield and Bebe Winans; and a national COVID-19 themed commemorative event on January 19.
Eva Longoria and Kerry Washington will host the inauguration day TV broadcast, while Bruce Springsteen, the Foo Fighters and John Legend are also expected to appear. Later today, Tom Hanks will host a prime-time TV show called “Celebrating America” which will air on all three major broadcast networks and cable channels, including CNN and MSNBC.
As Breitbart News reported, Debra Messing will co-host a pre-inauguration fundraising event on Sunday with actor Keegan-Michael Key. He will feature performances by Carole King, Will.I.AM, James Taylor, Fall Out Boy, Michael Bivins, Ben Harper and AJR.
Messing encouraged physical violence against President Donald Trump, saying in a tweet that she hoped the president would be raped in prison. Twitter did not penalize the Hollywood actress, whose comment appears to violate the platform’s terms of service.
Another groundbreaking fundraiser scheduled for Friday will feature members of the TV series’ cast The west wing, scandal, and Designated survivor. Actor and former Obama staffer Kal Penn will host the event.
