Home Alone 2 star Macaulay Culkin backs removal of Trump cameo

Culkin played Kevin McAllister, who is estranged from his family and ends up in New York City. At one point, Kevin crosses paths with Trump at the Plaza Hotel. He asks Trump for his way to the hotel lobby, and Trump responds by casually pointing him in the right direction.

Some fans of the film want to remove Trump from this scene – and one Twitter user has.

The user posted his version of the scene at the Plaza Hotel and this time Kevin is seen speaking to a silent and invisible character instead of Trump. The actor replied with only one word to the edited video: “Bravo”.

Another Twitter user offered to create a “petition to digitally replace the asset in ‘home alone 2’ with a 40-year-old macaulay culkin.”

“Sold.” Culkin wrote in response.
In addition to the tweets, a petition on Change.org asks Disney to replace Trump with President-elect Joe Biden.

“Home Alone 2 is tarnished. It has a racist stain in the form of Donald J. Trump,” the petitioner wrote. “I ask that he be removed from the film and replaced by Joe Biden.”

Not the first time Trump has cut ‘Home Alone 2’

In 2019, CBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., aired the film without Trump’s cameo hours after the president expressed to members of the overseas service how honored he was to appear in “one of the biggest “Christmas hits.”

When CNN contacted CBC for comment at the time, the Canadian broadcaster responded by stating that the film had been “edited for time.”

“The scene with Donald Trump was one of many that were cut from the film because none of them were part of the plot,” the statement said. “These changes were made in 2014 when we first acquired the film and before Mr. Trump was elected president.”

Film director says Trump made his way into film

Home Alone 2 director Chris Columbus told Insider last month that the filmmakers approached Trump with the idea of filming in the Plaza Hotel – which Trump owned at the time – because they wanted turn around the lobby and couldn’t “rebuild The Plaza on a soundstage.”

Trump said OK. We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie,’ “Columbus said. “So we agreed to put it in the movie, and when we first screened it, the strangest thing happened – people clapped when Trump appeared on screen. So said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience. But he has intimidated his way into the movie.’
