CHP Investigates Two Cases of Suspected Food Poisoning

The Health Protection Center (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) is investigating today two suspected cases of food poisoning involving seven people and calling on the public to maintain personal hygiene , food and environmental and to prevent foodborne illness.

The first case involved three women aged 38 to 48 years. On July 20, they ate food from a Causeway Bay restaurant and after 13 to 26 hours they developed symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting.

The second case involved two men and two women aged 25 to 34 years. On the same day, they ate fresh food from the same restaurant and after about nine to 30 hours they developed symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Of the five affected individuals who had sought medical treatment, they did not need to be hospitalized. All patients were in a stable state.

A CHP spokesman said, "The Department has informed the Department of Food and Environmental Hygiene of the incident and continues to investigate."

To prevent foodborne illness, the public should always maintain personal, food and environmental hygiene. When eating out, you should pay attention to the following:

  • Avoid raw seafood;
  • carefully choose deli meats, including sashimi, sushi and oysters;
  • When eating hot-pot or barbecues, make sure food is cooked thoroughly before eating;
  • Handle carefully and separate raw and cooked foods during cooking;
