Honk tries a new voicemail riff

Once there was a app called Yo. He just sent your friends the message “Yo” It was one of the best mobile apps ever, and while it still exists, everyone deleted it years ago and there’s no one left for Yo. Now a new app, Honk, would like us to join Yo, but this time we’ll say “Honk”.

Horn primarily positioned as a messaging app designed to make text chat appear more like an IRL conversation. After you download the app on iOS (not Android yet), open a chat with a friend, and you’ll see a live feed of what the friend is typing in real time. There is no discussion group at this time. It’s about recreating one-on-one interaction, with the ability to feel comfortable telling secrets as each message disappears as it comes. You’ll still want to keep your real secrets confined to Signal or an old-fashioned whisper in your ear, but it works for the fun stuff.

We tested it, and everything seems to be in working order. You can send photos or animated reactions that explode on the screen, but most of the time you are only talking to one person while watching them correct typos or decide to say something else. Has someone ever texted you and immediately said, “I shouldn’t have said that”? Well, this person had no excuse. They should have looked at their message before sending it. But on Honk, a user can finally blame a bad post on a reckless swipe of the tongue (or finger).

But you can’t just offload an info dump on your friends when they’re not around.they must be in the app to see messages. If you want to chat with a friend, you have two options: open the app and see who’s online or send them a message. Honk button sends them a notification message that says, “[Insert friend name] honked at you. If a user presses the button a second time, a message saying “[Insert friend name] honked at you again.

While real-time messaging might appeal to some people, I would say sending an Honk is the real killer feature of Honk, and it should be primarily used to send Cryptic Honks. I just need everyone to download the app for a short time to let me know my Honks are going to find a home.
