DAVIS COUNTY, Utah – A massive manhunt that lasted nearly eight hours on Friday morning ended after the suspect was shot, according to police at the scene.
The suspect, Joseph Manhard, had taken a family hostage at a house in the Farmington area.
Police said Manhard was taken by helicopter to a hospital after being shot by an officer.

Police also set up the shelter and said there was no longer a danger to the public.
Several police units were blocking I-15 feeder roads on both sides of the freeway near the Farmington-Centerville line early Friday morning from 5 a.m. as they searched for the “armed and dangerous” suspect.
Massive Davis County Manhunt Update
Police said Manhard had several active arrest warrants.
The search involved at least two dozen police and SWAT team members from half a dozen agencies.
The Davis School District has called for a late start to Reading and Stewart Elementary Schools due to the manhunt that has gone on for hours. They must start classes at 10:30 a.m.
Police released a photo of Manhard and said he was last seen wearing a red shirt / hoodie and a black hat.
Manhard’s original charges and arrest warrants were out of Layton for one incident earlier this week and apparently involve multiple crimes, including aggravated assault.

At around 1.30am this morning in Clearfield, police said Manhard hijacked one person, firing a shot into the victim’s car before picking up the vehicle and heading south.
Officials spotted him and chased him into the Farmington area where they were able to spike tires and deactivate the vehicle.
He crashed the vehicle into a ditch next to I-15.
At that point, Manhard took off on foot and that’s when this massive police search began. They consider him armed and very dangerous.
The front road at the Farmington and Centerville border has been blocked for hours and likely will remain so for some time. So, police urge people to avoid this area and plan an alternate route this morning.
