Recently I spent at least an hour a day playing Hot Wheels with my four year old. This is one of the games I love to play with it the most, so much so that last week I spent £ 50 and bought more track, a new car launcher and a booster that speeds them up.
So Hot Wheels Unleashed, a newly announced Hot Wheel racing game, is catching my attention.
None of this is actual gameplay footage, but it’s basically Trackmania, right? The cars go fast, the tracks turn and loop, and you can build your own tracks.
Where it differs perhaps the most is that these trails run through real world locations when selling the toys, so your backdrops will be living room tables and floors. In this regard, it is more reminiscent of the old Micro Machines games. Most of them were developed by Codemasters and therefore probably belong to EA.
It is developed by Milestone Games, the makers of other racing series such as MotoGP and Ride. It gives me hope that Hot Wheels Unleashed will be better than other games with the license, which have focused on mobile platforms, or just been poorly rated.
Update! Make that £ 60 spent on Hot Wheels last week. The game’s press release noted that the “Hot Wheels Singles Assortment” has been recognized as the # 1 selling toy of 2020 worldwide. So I went to Amazon and bought it. I need more new cars because a lot of the ones we have are from eBay, slightly broken, and my kid won’t leave the good ones with me when we play. I keep losing our races and taught him to do a really nasty, jubilant dance if he wins.
Now I will take revenge. Hot Wheels Unleashed will be released on September 30.
