Avast explains that Windows 7 machines running Avast for Business and CloudCare also crash at startup. The advice here is to start in safe mode and go back to a time before the installation of the updates.

Avira also issued a warning that Windows 10 could run more slowly after installing KB4493509. The same goes for Windows 7 after the installation of KB4493472 and KB4493448.

For the moment, Microsoft has only acknowledged the apparent conflict with the Sophos software and is working on a fix.
