House Freedom Caucus asks McCarthy to try to remove Pelosi as speaker

The motion is almost guaranteed to fail in the Democratic House, but it signals bubbling anger on the right towards the speaker. The Freedom Caucus letter says McCarthy should initiate the motion, and if he does, it would further exacerbate the partisan acrimony in the House which has remained high and has at times become personal since January 6.

They argue that Pelosi’s decision to dismiss Reps Jim Banks (R-Ind.) And Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) from the panel was “intolerable.” Pelosi, meanwhile, says she made the right call by blocking out Trump’s two allies due to their “antics” in the months following the deadly insurgency.

Banks and Jordan “made statements and took action that would have been ridiculous to put them on a truth-seeking committee,” Pelosi told reporters.

A Pelosi spokesperson did not immediately respond to the request for comment.

The group, which signed the letter simply as the “House Freedom Caucus,” cited a series of other grievances against Pelosi that they said represent “unconstitutional changes,” such as proxy voting, ” insulting security measures like metal detectors ”and his decision to expel a member of the minority – Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) – from its committees for dangerous conspiracy remarks and social media posts that ‘she did before she sat in Congress.
