HOUSTON, Texas – Houston area officials are preparing sea-going vehicles and preparing rescue boats as tropical storm Imelda threatens to throw up to 15 inches of rain in parts of southeastern Ontario. Texas and southwestern Louisiana over the next few days.

The storm, which formed on Tuesday, landed near Freeport, Texas, with sustained maximum winds of 40 mph.

Jeff Lindner, a meteorologist from the Harris County Flood Control District in Houston, said that Imelda 's main threat remained the potential for heavy rainfall and floods.

Parts of Harris County and neighboring Galveston County had already received 2 to 3 inches of rain Tuesday morning.

Lindner said that although there is a risk of flooding some isolated structures in the Houston area, widespread house flooding "does not seem likely at this stage".
