HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A fight in the Astros playoff game on Thursday afternoon goes viral, and the person who shared it is speaking out because he believes the opposing team fan who was hit was wrongfully accused.

In Game 1 of the American League Divisional Series at Minute Maid Park, Michael Cave recorded a Chicago White Sox fan leaving a section. He couldn’t believe what had happened.

“A fan came out of nowhere and poured a beer over his head,” Cave recalls. “When he did that, a White Sox fan pushed him. When he pushed him, the White Sox fan was hit by someone unrelated to the situation.”

A fight broke out. That’s when Cave stopped recording.

“When the video goes down, I leave, and I grab him too, and the cops come down and get him and I gave the video to someone from the police department to hopefully keep this guy out. prison, ”Cave explained.

The White Sox fan was seen on other social media being taken away in handcuffs.

ABC13 has contacted the Houston Police Department regarding this incident.

A spokesperson said they were looking to see if anyone had been charged. If there had been an arrest, Cave said it shouldn’t have been the White Sox fan.

“It drives me crazy,” Cave said. “It drives me crazy because I believe baseball is America’s biggest hobby. At the end of the day, we root different teams. It’s what it is, but it’s only a game.”
Cave recalled that the incident began after the White Sox fan had a verbal altercation with fans who asked him to leave.

The White Sox fan did it. As he walked away, Cave said other people, who were not originally involved, poured beer and hit the man.

“The two Astros fans who kicked it, they left,” Cave recalls. “As far as I know, they have never been caught by the cops.”

Over the summer, other videos showed Astros fans fighting with Dodgers fans during the series at Minute Maid Park. Cave said he worries Houston fans will get a bad rap.

“I was very scared to share the video,” Cave explained. “I’m a huge Astros fan and originally from Houston, and that doesn’t present Astros fans in a good light, but ultimately, if I was that White Sox fan, and there had a video there to exonerate me, or to show that I was the victim, and not the person who gave the first punch, I would like that to be brought to light. “

Cave is hoping there won’t be another incident like this the rest of the playoffs.

“I really hope that the people who see this or hear this or whatever else sit down and think and understand that this is just a game,” Cave explained.

ABC13 contacted an Astros spokesperson on Friday about the fight. The organization said the following:

The Astros are aware of the incident. No further comment.
