Houston doctor says if others saw what was going on in intensive care they would get vaccinated

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – The suffering and death associated with the COVID-19 pandemic often takes place behind closed doors. Sick patients struggle to recover in hospital beds. Doctors and nurses see their pain up close.

Dr George Williams is Associate Professor at McGovern Medical School at UT Health. He treats COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit of a hospital in the area. Williams spoke candidly about the experience and said if people really saw the pandemic they would get vaccinated.

“The procedures, the needles in the neck, the breathing tubes, lying on someone’s face with a whole bunch of us spinning them around our faces for 18 hours a day trying to improve their lungs and see the swelling of that, all the complications, ”Williams said.“ If people could see that, if the laws would allow us to take cameras and put them in the intensive care unit. For you to see what I can see, I’m sure over 98% of people would say, “I don’t want this to happen to me. I’m going to do something simple like get the vaccine.”

Williams said sick patients have requested the vaccine, but staff must then explain that it is too late.

“It’s not the flu,” said Dr Williams. “COVID-19 is a disease in itself. It’s almost like going through a conflict or a war zone to see what goes on in a COVID-19 intensive care unit. You don’t want this to happen to you. “
