HOUSTON – Houstonians around the world are hoping the Texans and quarterback Deshaun Watson can reconcile before the start of the 2021 season.
Even in the mayor’s office.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted on Sunday that the city “loves” Watson and the Texans and as mayor, “I pray we move forward together.”
Later that day, Turner followed up by tweeting that he values Watson as a player, but he respects him even more as a person.
“I know he loves this city because I saw how much he gave of himself and his treasure to the people of this city,” Turner tweeted. “I am honored to be its mayor. I hope that doesn’t change anytime soon.”

Watson is angry with the Texans’ organization over how she handled the process of finding a new CEO, ultimately hiring Nick Caserio, sources have previously told ESPN. Watson did not ask for a trade, but sources told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen on Sunday that the decision to coach the Texans should not change Watson’s desire to leave the organization.
Last week, a source told ESPN that the Texans have had internal conversations about possible business partners and what their quarterback position would look like without Watson.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the Texans should request a second interview with Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and may request a second interview with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Last week, the Texans announced interviewing Bieniemy, Frazier, Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Ravens assistant head coach David Culley, quarterback Josh McCown and former Lions and Colts head coach Jim Caldwell. for their position as head coach.
