Houston police sergeant charged with shooting death

Investigators said that a Houston police officer had been charged with murder for the fatal murder of his librarian wife.

Pearland police said in a statement that Belinda Hernandez's 52-year-old body was found Saturday by a relative at her home in suburban Houston. Her husband, the 56-year-old sergeant. Hilario Hernandez was arrested later that day 370 kilometers from Kingsville, Texas.

Police said the victim was a librarian at Shadycrest Elementary School.

Pearland police officer Jason Wells said Sunday that Hernandez was fired from Kleberg County in Brazoria County, where he was arrested. Wells was unable to provide bail information or a lawyer representing Hernandez.

The Sheriff's County Kleberg officials did not immediately return the messages on Sunday. The Houston police also did not immediately return a comment message.
