Houston Tumlin, who played Ricky Bobby’s son in ‘Talladega Nights,’ dies at 28

Houston Tumlin, whose entertaining portrayal of a disrespectful brat in “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” was his only major acting role, committed suicide on Tuesday at his home in Pelham, Alabama, Deadline reported. He was 28 years old.

Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans said Tumlin committed suicide, according to People.

Tumlin played Walker Bobby, the eldest son of Will Ferrell’s NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby.

In a funny scene from the iconic 2006 comedy, Walker and his younger brother (Grayson Russell) gang up on their grandfather (Ted Manson), who spoke out about their bad behavior.

“Shut up, Chip, or I’ll piss you off on your ass,” Walker says to his grandfather.

“Really heartbroken and stunned by the passing of Houston,” the film’s director, Adam McKay, wrote on Twitter. “He was a happy and talented person. I will never forget the laughs and the good times we had.

Tumlin served in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell and also worked in repairing telephone lines, TMZ reported.

IMDB has not listed any other actor credits for Tumlin.

“My heart is absolutely broken,” Charity Robertson, his girlfriend, wrote on Facebook. “My sweet, sweet baby … Our time together has been one of the best experiences of my life. I will miss your big heart, caring mind, infectious laughs, and oh man, could the list go on. ”
