This is what happens in the world of television on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8. All hours are east.
The best choice
City Tales (Netflix, Friday, 3:01): Month of pride, City Tales returned. Some faces of this new Netflix series, led by Orange is the new blackLauren Morelli, with writer Armistead Maupin, as executive producer, should be familiar to viewers of both Showtime releases, including Laura Linney and Olympia Dukakis, but there are also new faces. One of them is Caldwell Tidicue, whom you may know best as Bob The Drag Queen. Here is the Viruet pilot on the new season:
City Tales is very interesting when it deals with the delicate nuances of queerism, contradictory opinions between generations or simply between a couple with different ideas. When a stranger asks Margot and Jake for their intention to have children, Margot balks at the idea that they are mistaken for a heterosexual couple while Jake just seems happy that he is considered a cis man. City Tales presents a homosexual woman engaged in a polyamorous relationship, a homosexual couple who sails in her first trio and a woman ruminating on the hope of an open relationship of her partner by spitting shouts: "Unlike everyone in the 21st century, I like monogamy. " Tales wants to show the range of romantic relationships and that even if it breaks down or if it does not engage enough, it is still quite admirable.
This seems like a good way to spend a weekend. The season enters, purse first, Friday morning.
Regular coverage
Wild card
Designated Survivor (Netflix, Friday): Get ready for a little more 24-meets-The west wing-meets-Scandal hijinks of President Tom Kirkman and his administration. Reanimated by Netflix after its cancellation by ABC, the series will now include, presumably, profanity. Keep an eye on Allison Shoemaker's pre-flight review.
