Chessies, the day has arrived: Jesse Metcalfe’s latest episode of Chesapeake Ribs aired on Sunday, and it was a bittersweet affair for former lovebirds Trace and Abby.
Much like the Season 5 premiere, Abby’s family keep asking her how she’s doing, and she puts up a hard front while wistfully rethinking her and Trace’s last interactions together. She flashbacks how she found out that Trace was selling his half of The Bridge to Mick. After Abby and Trace’s big time to “stop ghost hunting” from the start of the season, he decided it was time to leave Chesapeake Shores for “a fresh start”.

In a separate flashback to his farewell party at The Bridge, Trace and Mick shared a sweet heart to heart, Mick telling the young man he had always respected him, and Trace returning the sentiment. “There’s always another way, and I know you’ll find yours,” Mick reassured him.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Trace told the O’Brien family table that he would be back, but Abby knew better. “He doesn’t like goodbyes,” she noted.
Then, in the most touching of memories, Abby recalled how she came out to confront her ex about her leaving without a word. “What haven’t we said to each other over the years? Trace wondered, to which Abby replied, “I don’t think we’ve said goodbye yet.”
Trace admitted he didn’t know where he was going. Something was missing inside of him, and he tried to fill it with music and then her, he explained to Abby. Now he was going to try to find it inside himself. Abby wished him luck and he said he would miss her and the girls. “You deserve the best, Abby,” he added.
“You too,” she replied.
“Maybe now we’ll find him,” Trace finished, pulling away as Abby watched with teary eyes.
Back in the present, Abby confesses to her father that although she is sad, she is excited to find out what will come next. After a run – and a montage that makes your hearts vibrate from Abby and Trace heights and low – Abby asks Kevin how long it took her to get over her own breakup. Kevin gives her a few words of wisdom from their grandmother: “You can never heal by coming back to what broke you.” Something tells me the arrival of Zombie Veterinarian Robert Buckley next week could help with that heartache down the road. Or there’s always Professor Jay, who is always very kind to Abby as he patiently waits for her.
