Bad news keeps coming the Minnesota Timberwolves way.
D’Angelo Russell will undergo left knee surgery and should miss four to six weekssources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
This news certainly has an impact on the Warriors, who own the rights to Minnesota’s protected first-round pick in 2021.
The T-Wolves (7-20) enter Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers at the bottom of the NBA standings. And they’ll likely be worse with D-Lo sidelined.
So if we assume two things – 1) the losses continue to pile up and 2) the T-Wolves end with the worst record in the NBA – the Warriors would enter the 2021 NBA Draft lottery with just under. 59.56% chance of having this precious. choices that were sent to them this year:
-11.97 percent chance of getting overall pick # 4
-47.86 percent chance of getting overall pick # 5
Keep in mind that the Warriors – who had the worst record in the league last season – ended up with the second pick in the 2020 Draft, which had a 13.42% chance of happening.
If that exact scenario happened again, the T-Wolves would have the choice and all eyes would be on 2022 when the selection is unprotected.

Finally, let’s do another exercise where we assume Minnesota comes out of the basement and finishes with the fourth worst record. If that comes to pass, here are the lottery odds:
-No. 1 choice: 12.5% (T-Wolves guard)
-No. 2nd choice: 12.23% (T-Wolves guard)
-No. 3 pick: 11.89% (T-Wolves guard)
-No. Choice 4: 11.46 percent
-No. 5 choices: 7.24 percent
-No. 6 choices: 25.74 percent
-No. 7 choices: 16.74 percent
-No. 8 choices: 2.19 percent
So in that scenario, Golden State would have a 63.38% chance of getting the pick in 2021, and it would land anywhere from No.4 to No.8.
No matter how you look at it, the Warriors (and all of the Dub Nation) are going to sweat on lottery night and hope the ping pong balls bounce in their favor.
