Seasons 1-6 were hosted by Chris Harrison, who also hosted The single person and The bachelorette from 2002 to 2021 before leaving the franchise. Baccalaureate in paradise Season 7 was hosted by a rotating roster of celebrities including Lance Bass, David Spade and Lil Jon.

The following week, the tables are turned, and the sex that did not distribute roses the previous week now has the task of choosing who to give a rose and who to send home. Each week more competitors from past seasons of The single person and The bachelorette are also joining the show to create an unequal number between women and men and force the candidates already present to pair up with a new person or to stay in their current relationship. Candidates are also given random appointment cards to choose which candidates they want to spend time alone with. Many new contestants join the show with a date card.

At the end of the season, contestants are offered a chance to have an overnight date without a camera or microphone (much like Fantasy Suites on The Bachelor and The bachelorette.) After the dates the night is the final, where contestants choose to either break up or get engaged. As The single person and The bachelorette, Baccalaureate in paradise Also features a special “After the Final Rose”, where contestants meet to discuss the drama and brief viewers about their relationship.
