The Florida Gators have earned an impressive title for 7th place in the SEC tonight after a fierce battle against Mizzou. You may be wondering "how did Florida still manage to win despite the loss of an incredibly impressive senior class after graduation last year?" After all, the Gators lost Caeleb Dressel, the greatest SCY sprinter of all time, as well as individual NCAA champions Jan Switkowski and Mark Szaranekand his second year, Michael Taylor (former world junior record holder), was redirected this season for health reasons.

The answer, in simple terms, is a class of freshmen who has presented and who has demonstrated in front of the Gators. Replacing a class led by Caeleb Dressel was a daunting challenge to fill, the Florida freshman did his best to complete the lineup. In fact, freshmen scored 358.5 of Florida's 904 individual points, the largest number of any class. Here is the breakdown of points by class for UF:

  • First-year student – 358.5
  • Sophomore – 63
  • Junior – 326
  • Senior – 156.5

So let's dive into this freshman class and see where these points come from:

In addition, junior Maxime Rooney was the team's leading scorer, accumulating 87 points. Robert Finke Trey Freeman was 3rd with 79. In addition, freshmen were very helpful at Florida in the relays. In total, Florida has won 4 individual events and 1 relay.
