Manchester United came into clash against Crystal Palace on Wednesday with no less than nine starters from the first team. Result: Acting manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was forced to deploy Diogo Dalot in an unusual position on the right.
But the risk has paid off.
United was without Jesse Lingard, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic – which had left him in the top positions.
Behind, Dalot was playing in the rear guard, next to Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku. He is 19 years old and stands out admirably.
"A little way to come to an end because of all the injuries we have suffered in the front," said Solskjaer about Dalot's selection.
"But Diogo played as winger in Porto when he was younger. You can see that he has skills, but of course he helped.Zaha and Van Aanholt are a good left side for Palace."
United fans were impressed by Dalot 's performance and here is how some of them reacted:
A permanent switch?
Great comparison …
The best right winger of United?
He had keen air …
I did not see it coming
Could be useful again
Sad but true?
