A new leak suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, due to be unveiled on August 11, will feature a pre-order deal with a free case, S Pen stylus, and 25W charger.
This strongly suggests that the phone will not come with a charger in the box. Why would Samsung include a charger in the pre-order offer if there was already one included in the main package?
It might seem like a complicated way to get yourself a charger, but I think it might be a manufacturer’s best idea to make up for the disappointment of ditching the charger out of the box.

Many manufacturers are ditching the default charger out of the box in an attempt to limit the environmental impact of each phone. We’ve seen Samsung do this before, as well as the latest iPhone 12 series from Apple and various other Android manufacturers.
When the Samsung Galaxy S21 launched earlier this year – the company’s first flagship phone to take the charger out of the box – we explained to the company why it was taking the step.
Paul Scott, Head of Product Management for Samsung Mobile in the UK, told TechRadar: “This is a really bold step but really important at the same time. Listening to our consumers, they are doing a lot more, like us, sustainable choices in their daily lives, and what we need to do is make sure we support that. ”
“We don’t want to send another charger to a consumer when they maybe have a charger from, say, 2018 or going back to 2017. It’s a USB Type-C charger, so we’re not changing it. . . “
While Samsung has yet to confirm that this is the case for the Galaxy Z Fold 3, numerous leaks have suggested it will and this latest pre-order deal hints that the Foldable will follow the Galaxy S21 and drop. the charger in the box. .
Samsung has introduced phones since the Galaxy S21 that include chargers in the box, but none of them have been an expensive flagship like the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Why is it good?
I think the reason many are upset that manufacturers are ditching a charger out of the box is because they think they are being wronged. They spend the same amount on a phone as when a charger was in the box, and now they’re getting less.
This is valid, but Samsung is also right. Many customers who are upgrading do not need the charger included in the box, and you’ll often find that the charger you already have at home is suitable for your new smartphone.
So why not include a charger, but as a separate part of the smartphone itself? I think manufacturers should offer a free charger to any customer who purchases a phone, but this should go through a separate claims process.
This is something Samsung is used to doing – if you get a free gift with your smartphone, like a smartwatch or headphones, you often have to claim it through a separate system after purchasing the handset itself.
If you already have a charger, you won’t get a spare that is right in the box. This is the most frustrating of electronic waste.
On the other hand, if you need a new charger – whether it’s because you don’t have a USB-C one, or just want new fast-charging tech – then you can claim it and get it without spending more.
It might not happen, but it looks like Samsung is embracing an idea that lets you get a charger for free if you need it, while also making sure all handsets don’t have a charger in the box. by default.
