Prequel / spinoff movie Annabelle marked the first expansion of the universe in 2014, while the main Conjuring franchise received a sequel with The conspiracy 2 in 2016. From this moment, Warner Bros. No longer had a year without new slice of the theatrical franchise. The conspiracy 2 was followed by Annabelle: Creation, a prequel movie about the original and wider universe, and The nun, a pre-series / derivative film that took place the farthest in the past and used to develop the demonic Valek the Nun that appeared in Summoning 2. Yes, the curse of La Llorona is in the invoked universe
If you only paid attention to The curse of La Lloronamarketing campaign, then you may be surprised to learn that the movie is connected to Conspiracythe expansive world. The film teases no connection to a larger universe in marketing and was considered a regular and autonomous supernatural thriller. This was not proven when the film was first shown at SSXW earlier this year and the reactions to the film confirmed that The curse of La Llorona is connected to the previous Conjuring movies.
The architects of the whole Conjuring James Wan and Gary Dauberman, a franchise, were previously associated as producers of the film, which should have been a major gift for such a revelation. That said, we do not know if The curse of La Llorona has always been considered to be part of the great franchise. It was originally titled Children, and the connection points between this movie and the larger universe are relatively small, which means that they could have been integrated into the film at the last minute. But what are these connections?
Father Perez was in the first film of Annabelle
One of the major connections that The curse of La Llorona done at the Conjuring Tony Armendola returns to his role as father Perez. He appeared for the first time in Annabelle, making it his second appearance in the franchise. In AnnabellePerez is contacted by John and Mia Form – played by Ward Horton and Annabelle Wallis respectively – and seeks his help after the spirit that owns the Annabelle doll attacks their family. Perez is the one who explains the connection between the demon and Annabelle to the family. He tries to help them by taking Annabelle to a church, but he is attacked by the demon before he can enter and goes to the hospital.
These events all occurred in 1967, but Perez is now in good health and continues to serve as a pastor in 1973. He is again used as a counselor at the supernatural events faced by Anna Tate-Garcia (Linda Cardellini). Anna asks him if he knows anything about La Llorona and he explains the supposed legend to him. But he refuses to participate in another supernatural activity and directs Anna and her family to a former priest who may serve.
