The post-credit scene from The Mandalorian Season 2 finale not only hints at the direction of the Boba Fett spinoff, but gives it a title and a premiere date.

Boba Fett fans were undoubtedly disappointed that he played only a small role in the assault on Moff Gideon’s command cruiser in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale, helping to create the ruse that allows his allies to land aboard before disappearing in Slave I. However, if they stay past the credits, they see the sequel for the legendary Bounty Hunter: The expected impact, titled Boba Fett’s book, arriving in December 2021.
The action returns to Tatooine and the former palace of Jabba the Hutt, the setting for the 1983 opening scenes Return of the Jedi. Director Peyton Reed (The ant Man) and “The Rescue” writer Jon Favreau leaned toward the tribute, with Jabba’s butler, Bib Fortuna, taking his late master’s place on the dais, in more ways than one.
Although the palace, like Mos Eisley, is nowhere as bustling as it once was, a Fortuna now round and at its center, surrounded by a mere shadow of the scum and wickedness for which the location was once known. He even has a Tw’lek slave dancer on a chain, arguably seeking to emulate Jabba more.
Just like the sound of a blaster in Return of the Jedi signaled the arrival of Leia Organa, disguised as Boushh bounty hunter, as well as the return of Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) to his former playground. Accompanied by Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), he confronts Bib in a scene which evokes the meeting of Luke Skywalker with Jabba. However, Bib Fortuna is not a Jabba and Boba Fett is not a serene Jedi Knight.
Returning to form, Bib attempts to congratulate himself on Boba, who stands in the very place Luke did, on the grudge trap (we can assume Bib never managed to find a replacement). But while Luke has come to the palace to negotiate, Boba has no interest in speaking: he shoots and kills Bib, pushes his body off the throne, then silently takes his place, presumably with the intention of taking back whatever is left of him. Only a few weeks ago, safe money would have been placed on Boba Fett dying in a flame of glory in the season finale, with the spin-off in the past filling the gaps between the fall in the pit of Sarlacc in Return of the Jedi and now. However, this post-credits scene suggests that the story will take place at least in part by the time of The Mandalorian, while the title of the spin-off – Boba Fett’s book – suggests that he will also revisit chapters of his past.
