How the Yankees completed their 40-man roster

The Yankees rounded out their 40-man lineup on Friday by adding three right-handed pitchers – Roansy Contreras, Yoendrys Gomez and Alexander Vizcaíno – as well as infielder Oswald Peraza. None of the quartets competed in 2020 due to the novel coronavirus which shut down the minor leagues.

All four players joined the Yankees as international free agents in 2016.

Baseball America ranks Peraza, 20, 6th overall in the Yankees organization; Vizcaino, 23, eighth and Gomez, 21, ninth. Vizcaino, a non-aligned guest at the Yankees’ first spring lineup last season, climbed the top of the organizational ladder, throwing for Class A Tampa in 2019. Friday marked the deadline for clubs to protect players eligible to be selected by another team in Draft Rule 5 on December 10.
