How this Game of Thrones character finally won redemption

SPOILERS AHEAD for Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 3 – "The Long Night".

Theon's death in the epic episode of tonight's Game of Thrones was, according to animators David Benioff and DB Weiss, symbol of redemption and the way we choose to face our last moments of the life.

The last night of Theon was spent defending Bran from the Night King and his army. However, before the undead enemies arrived, he looked at Bran and began to apologize for everything he had done in the past.

Bran stopped him quickly and said, "Everything you did brought you where you are, where you belong, at home."

Then, as the King of the night arrived at Godswood and all seemed lost, Bran looked at Theon and said, "You're a good man, thank you." Bran knew what was coming, like Theon, and Theon chose to spend his last moments redeeming himself and making one last fatal attempt to kill the King of the Night and, in a sense, all his previous mistakes.

Even though he lost and he was killed, he conquered in life and faced death with a purpose and honor, despite everything that had happened before.

"I think what was really important for Theon in the end was to hear this thanks from Bran, because Bran knows what's going to happen.He knows he's dead," Benioff says in Inside. the Episode of HBO. "He knows that he will not be able to kill the king of the night, but I think his action is really heroic, that is, we are all going to die, and we know we will not be able to defeat death." at the end." but you know, this is the way you face these last moments, and he chooses to run straight to the point, and I think he dies in a way that makes us really proud of him and the journey he has accomplished. "

Weiss explained that if the show "does not only deal with people who redeem themselves, it's over, but if you, if the web is big enough, there's room for those moments of redemption."

Theon has suffered greatly since being taken hostage and warded by Lord Eddard Stark after the Greyjoy rebellion until he became friends with the Starks and betrayed them by capturing Winterfell until he was captured. and tortured by Ramsay Bolton by becoming Reek, saving Sansa and so much more. He had a senseless trip and was able to end it on a tragic heroic note.
