How to delete Amazon Alexa history

Amazon stores indefinitely things that you ask Alexa. But it's easy to delete this data from Amazon's servers if you know how.

This problem has made headlines because Senator Chris Coons, D-Del., Recently wrote to Amazon asking him how he was storing consumer data. Late last month, Brian Huseman, vice president of public policy for Amazon, responded by admitting that the company was storing Alexa transcripts until a customer requested to delete them.

Huseman explained that Amazon was retaining this data to improve Alexa's response and reiterated that the audio was only sent to Amazon if an Amazon Echo heard the word overnight, which is replaced by default when people speak "Alexa".

In May, Amazon facilitated the removal of some of the questions asked to Alexa. Here's how:

First of all, you can say "Alexa, delete everything I said today" or "Alexa, delete what I just said."

But if you want to delete things you said earlier, do the following:

• Open the Alexa app on your phone.
• Tap the menu icon in the upper left corner of the application.
• Tap "Settings" at the bottom.
• Tap "Alexa Account" at the top of the page.
• Select "History".

However, this process only allows you to delete items one after the other. If you want to delete everything at the same time, do the following:

• Visit the Amazon Device Page
• Select the menu button to the left of the Echo device you want to manage. (The menu button looks like three small dots stacked on top of each other.
• Tap "Manage voice recordings"
• Press "Delete".

That's all. Now that you've deleted everything you've talked to Alexa, it means that, according to Huseman, voice recordings will be deleted from Amazon's servers.
