How to enter Final Fantasy XIV in 2019

As Final Fantasy XIVThe new "Shadowbringers" expansion is coming up, I've seen many colleagues and friends wonder how to get into the game. With hours and hours of content, tons of jobs to choose from and many Where to go, this may seem daunting, but it's still worth it. Here are some tips for curious adventurers eager to start their adventures.

Final Fantasy XIV first launched in 2010 at a disastrous reception before being reorganized into Final Fantasy XIV: A Reborn Kingdom in 2013. It was an immediate improvement, bringing faster fights and a more targeted scenario, and the three extensions that followed brought additional refinement. The newest of them, "Shadowbringers", was released last week and there are often fun events that keep the freshness, crossovers with other games to sudden arrival of new categories of jobs.

Why play now?

The story focuses on the player becoming the famous warrior of light and involving in the political plot, massive wars and great cosmic struggles. The main campaign is a slow combustion that reaches fantastic heights and presents some of the most convincing villains and allies of all countries. Final Fantasy Games. The world of Eorzea is vast and magnificent. There is always the promise of a new spectacular area on the horizon. The rich tradition of the game makes the game both exciting and comfortable. You will have to finish difficult dungeons, fight ancient gods and eliminate difficult raids with up to 23 other strangers (or friends) depending on the circumstances. Square Enix also offers a variety of level and story content jumps that can be purchased that let you decide when and how you will play and what your strength will be.

The large gaming community of 16 million registered players welcomes all types of players. There are communities focused on combating hard bosses and raiding, communities for role play and storytelling, and servers for different languages. No matter what you want to do, there are players who will help you with enthusiasm.

Buy the game

If you are curious to know Final Fantasy XIVCombat experience early in the world, but are not yet ready to buy it or pay the subscription fee, there is a free trial. You can only play up to level 35, but you can still sample the starting job classes and enjoy stories, dungeons and boss fights. Be warned that the first portions of Final Fantasy XIV may seem slow, as the information takes a long time to familiarize the player with the various governments and main characters of Eorzea.

If you buy the game, you have some options. You can buy the basic edition at $ 19.99 and play the original story. From there, you can use a nice stop service called Mog Station to buy extensions. The first extension, "Heavensward", is a requirement for some higher level job classes. It's a good extension that Square Enix sometimes offers for free. I suggest picking it up. If you are in the long run, there is a full edition priced at $ 59.99 including the base game and the three extensions.

Some people in the comments suggested to avoid buying it via Steam and I agree. It's easier to buy in stand-alone mode, without having to use Steam to buy future content. Stick to the standalone version and Mog Station. For consoles such as PS4, you can buy via PSN.

Most of these editions come with 30 days of free game time. Then you will need a subscription. The subscription is $ 12.99 per month, which can increase if you buy optional services such as packages to store your equipment. For some, this price commitment is not achievable, which is understandable. That said, I think Final Fantasy XIV worth the cost. I've met some of the most important people in my life thanks to Final Fantasy XIVand it is difficult to quantify the cost.

Choose a server

Each server is a little different, but the most important thing to know is that there are four data centers with individual servers that fall into certain time zones or game styles. It is possible to travel in multiple data centers by using a new "World Tour" service that allows you to explore beyond your home server as a guest. Keep this in mind when selecting a data center.

For North America, there are three data centers:

  • Ether: The most populated data center. Many of his worlds are "congested", which means that it is not always possible to create new characters, especially after the release of this new extension. The popularity of Aether means that you will find a little bit of everything. More raid content is cleared here than on other servers. Really good for hardcore players.
  • Primitive: Primal servers are generally laid back, although some are more hardcore than others. It also has a server with Brazilian and Australian players. You'll find 4chan members here and there, but that's not too important.
  • Crystal: Social actors, artisans and actors will be very comfortable here. Although there are raiding teams, there are a lot less than on other servers. This is where you go if you want to tackle the game economy or create stories created by the players. Some servers have a reputation for erotic role-playing (think: cybersex), but this is largely behind closed doors and is almost invisible to those who do not seek it.

In addition to the North American data center, there are Japanese data centers: Gaia, Elemental and Mana. Europe has two data centers: Chaos and Light. These datacenters have some of the newest servers, which means that you can enter new communities on the ground floor, but it also means that players such as players are limited at the moment.

Playing with friends

As with most MMORPGs, if you know people who play Final Fantasy XIV, better try to play with them. This will make the first experience easier, and even if you are not always on the same server initially, it is possible to visit other servers on the same data center and transfer them later.

This is my white mage. She belongs to a race called Miqo'te and a subculture called The Sun Seekers.

Create a character

It will seem more intimidating than it really is. Although each of the eight starting races of the game has different stats, it does not matter if you do not want min-max to the extreme. Instead, choose what you think is the best or capture your inner adventurer. Each breed has two different cultures to choose from, which have slightly different visual designs. Divert the creator and see what you like. Trust your instinct; Final Fantasy XIV it's also being fashionable and cool. Express yourself!

Nothing is etched in stone. There are potions called Fantasia (sometimes distributed for free and always buyable at the Mog station) that allow you to change the sex, race and more of your character. Your job is the only thing that is initially locked.

When choosing a job, know that it starts in different cities. Archers, spearmen and conjurors – the only healing work initially available – begin in the forest town of Gridania. Thaumaturges, Pugilists and Gladiators begin in the shabby city of Ul'dah. Arcanists and marauders start in the port of Limsa Lominsa. You are stuck in these areas for a while, and although I recommend you choose the job you like rather than doing it in town, there is still good information to have. The characters have no limit on the number of job classes they can occupy. It is easy to soak your feet in the water to find what you like. You do not like a job? Just look where to find a new one and try!

Larryzaur is one of the most entertaining and informative FFXIV content creators. Here it breaks down each class (less Gunbreaker and Dancer.) Some of the information here is out of date, but it remains a good guide for jobs.

Know your role

Final Fantasy XIV uses the "trinity" of tanks, healers and damage merchants (aka DPS) for their work. The tanks catch the enemy's attention and guide the group's progress in the dungeons, the healers keep everyone alive while inflicting damage, and the DPS mostly hits things with its weapons and sometimes improves the party. There are later categories of advanced jobs, such as the dark knight and the samurai who inflict considerable damage, but here is the breakdown of the initial jobs.

  • tanks: Gladiators, Marauders
  • healers: summoners
  • DPS: Arcanists, Archers, Lancers, Pugilists, Thaumaturge

These works eventually move to a better version. For example, conjurers can become white mages. Arcanists can become either summoners or exercise another healer's profession, the scholar. There is also a quest to unlock other jobs such as Samurai, the astrologer astrologer, and new jobs such as Gunbreaker and Dancer. Because you are able to travel to all major cities after a bit of history, I suggest experimenting with each starting job. Finally, you will find one that suits your favorite style of play.

Where to start

With so many stories and the opportunity to buy items from the Mog station to jump from history, it can be hard to know where to start. You have some options, each with advantages and disadvantages. Regardless of what you choose, I have written a practical section following this one that will help you get acquainted with the story.

Start from the beginningIt's a great place to start. You will have a comfortable introduction to trades and traditions. The integration process is not so bad, and you will start with simpler content that will help you learn the ins and outs of reading. It's also the cheapest option thanks to the free trial version or the cheaper starting edition.

  • ADVANTAGES: comfortable introduction to Eorzea and the many jobs of the game. Less intense initial experience. Lower cost.
  • CONS: The story of A reborn kingdom start slowly and stay like that for a moment. You really need to work until the end until things start to appear. Fights between dungeons and bosses are also much less exciting than what comes next. Wait times for lower level dungeons may be longer, as the majority of players are medium to high level.

Start from "Heavensward": By skipping a story and upgrading your level, you can jump right to the first expansion of the game. This is where the story really begins to come together, but you will miss an important background as a beginner. If you do not want to go through the slower main story, it's a great place to start.

  • Pros: exciting story with lots of twists. Jobs and quests are still low enough not to be too painful. Beautiful surroundings and music.
  • CONS: The learning curve will be steeper, and you may have more difficulty jumping into dungeons or other content. The absence of context prevents the story from hitting as hard.

Start from "Stormblood": With some bonuses and jumps, you can jump on "Heavensward" and play "Stormblood". The story is a bit more grounded, focusing on a fierce war between the good and the bad Garlean empire. This is where you get the most context for "Shadowbringers", the most recent expansion. Attempting to start with higher level content is a huge risk, but it may be the least interesting expansion.

  • Pros: great way to quickly know who the important characters are and to know the current situation in the world. Dungeons and bosses will really put your skills to the test.
  • CONS: Not really the best stories of expansion. It will be really hard to make the jump without wasting a little time learning the job classes.

Start with "Shadowbringers": It is also possible to start at the last expansion, but without much investment in the previous scenarios, some of the magic will be lost. In addition, it is difficult, and if you do not know the abilities of your work, you will be screwed.

  • PROS: Honestly? Do not do that. You should really play it, but do not start here.
  • CONS: See the pros.

The story up to now

Note: If you forget a story, you can watch it by going to an inn and readinghe travels endlessly in your room. This is not all you need to know, but you can access important scenes from each extension to see what you missed. If you are very interested in traditions, there are two real-life books called Encyclopedia Eorzea which describe the history and history of the world.

In A reborn kingdom, the players mostly try to prevent the rise of creatures called Primals, dangerous entities similar to those of God called in the world. By joining the brave Scions of the Seventh Dawn, the player thwarts the Primals and learns that a mysterious group called the Ascians causes everything. The evil Empire Garlean, led by General Gaius van Baelsar, revives an old super weapon called Ultima Weapon, which the player defeats. The rest of the story involves beating some Acians, a ghost group that causes most of the chaos, and ends with the player accused of a major political assassination.

In Heavensward, players flee to the snowy nation of Ishgard and immerse themselves in the intrigues of noble houses and theocratic clergy. The warrior of light fights against the dangerous archbishop Thordan, who wishes to become a powerful god-king. Thordan is defeated. Dragon Lord Midgardsormr, whose gender is in perpetual war with the nation of Ishgard, deprives the player of his powers. After a quest to retrieve them, the dragon Nidhogg is defeated in a super-sad but impressive boss fight that ends the conflict. Meanwhile, a radical terrorist incites war between the Garlean Empire and the occupied Ala Mhigo.

The war begins in "Stormblood". The player faces the empire and faces a stunning defeat against the son of Emperor Zenos yae Galvus. Spared, they slowly form a coalition of rebels and resistance fighters who unite to chase Ala Mhigo's empire. We learn that the empire was founded by the Ascians in order to cause a calamity that shakes the world. The war continues as the empire works to build a dangerous chemical weapon. One by one, the Scions begin to sink into coma as their souls are drawn into another world. The empire and the good guys face off in a huge battle, each party ultimately collapsing. The warrior of light almost falls into a coma and it is clear that something else is threatening the world.

All this comes down to Shadowbringers, where the player is summoned to another world called the Premier. A massive imbalance of cosmic forces has created dangerous beats called Sin Eaters. This is, of course, an ascian plot, and the player (along with the other Scions) left to defeat powerful "Lightwardens" and bring the world back to normal.

Important things to know as a beginner

  • First, there is a series of tutorial quests called "The Novice Room,"You can access to learn more about your work once you reach level 15. You can also use a content search tool to read the dungeons you unlocked. Playing in the lower dungeons is a great way to learn your work, especially if you upgrade.
  • When you do a dungeon, Let people know if this is your first time. Most players assume that everyone knows the details, but tell the players that you are new and 99.9% of them will tell you what you need to know. Beyond that, Consider watching YouTubers' Dungeon and Raid Guides like MrHappy or MTQcapture. They are brief and informative and tell you everything you need to know about your situation. Want to learn a fight and without having to argue? Check out their channels for everything you need.
  • Know what quests to take. Quests that open new content have a blue icon and a small plus sign. These can unlock dungeons, raids and other places like the Golden Saucer's fun-filled amusement park. Quests with an icon that looks like a flame are main quests. go through them to level up and enjoy the story. Normal exclamation points are side quests. For a breakdown of HUD and other markers, check this official FAQ.
  • To level up, launch your daily casters. Your search engine allows you to make "casters", which select random dungeons, boss fights, raids and more. These offer more experience than normal and will help greatly speed up your upgrade. You will also earn currency that you can spend to get quality material. Between this story and the main quests, progress is very easy.
  • If you are interested in making objects, know that there is a high barrier of entry into the craft industry. Unlike classes of combat jobs, in which you can access higher levels via level hops, you must start over and build yourself as an artisan, regardless of your level. Purchasing materials is expensive, and you will really want to be a gatherer, like a miner or a botanist, to get what you need, but you still need to get started in the early stages of manufacturing. Reaching the levels required to produce quality products and make huge profits requires a considerable investment of time. Succeeding as a craftsman means taking tons of jobs and leveling them all to produce what you need. Do not be afraid to ask for help.

Do not be shy

Introduce yourself to people! Try new classes of jobs and get carried away by the adventure. MMOPRGs are intimidating, but as long as you are nice, you will receive kindness in return. Final Fantasy XIV offers shows, cool events for players, difficult boss battles, etc. Soak up everything and enjoy the chance to really grow up, not just as a Dragoon, but as a person.
