How to make calls with Google Home and Google Nest Hub

Because of everything you can do with your Google Home and / or Google Nest hubs, it's easy to forget some simple tasks it can handle. I use a few times a week to make calls. How to set up Google Home or Google Home Mini to make calls

Link your Google Account to your Google home page

If you did this during the initial setup of Google Home or Google Home Mini, you can skip this:

    1. Open the Home application on your smartphone
    2. Tap the account icon in the lower right corner of the application.
    3. Select the Wizard tab, and then tap Voice Match.
    4. Check all the devices you want to use for phone calls
    5. Tap Continue and then "I agree"

Sync contacts from your Google Account

    1. Open the Home application on your smartphone
    2. Tap the account icon in the lower right corner of the application.
    3. Select "Settings" in the General Settings section.
    4. Tap "Your data in the wizard".
    5. Scroll to "Device Information" and make sure it is enabled.

Connect your desired phone number to your account

(By default, this is an unlisted number.)

    1. Open the Home application on your smartphone
    2. Tap the account icon in the lower right corner of the application.
    3. Tap "Settings" in the General Settings section.
    4. Select the Services tab, and then press "Voice and Video Calls".
    5. Select Mobile Calls
    6. You can use a Google Voice number, a standard phone number, or a Google Fi number.

Make calls with Google Home or Google Home Mini

As promised, it's easy to make calls with Google Home. There are a number of different options available. Just say "Hey Google" or "Ok Google", then one of the following commands:

  • Call (name of the person in your contacts)
  • Call (company name in your contacts or available via Google)
    You can also find out about a nearby business and simply say "call them".
  • Call (full phone number with area code)

When you have finished your call, you must say "Hey Google" or "Ok Google" and then:

  • stop
  • End of the call
  • To hang up
  • Disconnect

Setting up Google Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max to make calls

To make voice calls with your mobile number from your Google Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max in the United States or the United Kingdom, follow the same instructions as for Google Home above. However, you can also use Google Duo to make calls with Google Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max. This allows you to make video calls as well as voice calls, but be aware that this is then limited to other Google Duo users. To set it up, follow the instructions below.

Set up Google Duo for your Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max

    1. Open the Home application on your smartphone
    2. Tap the account icon in the lower right corner of the application.
    3. Select "Settings" in the General Settings section.
    4. Select the Services tab, then "Voice and video calls" and finally "Video and voice applications".
    5. Tap Google Duo, and then complete the guided setup.

Sync contacts from your Google Account

    1. Open the Home application on your smartphone
    2. Tap the account icon in the lower right corner of the application.
    3. Select "Settings" in the General Settings section.
    4. Tap "Your data in the wizard".
    5. Scroll to "Device Information" and make sure it is enabled.

Make calls with Google Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max

Once again, once setup is complete, making calls with Google Nest Hub is easy. The touch screen of these devices gives you additional options over Google Home devices. To make a call, just say "Hey Google" or "Ok Google" and then one of the following commands:

  • Call (name of the person in your contacts)
  • Video call (name of the person among your contacts)

In the case of the Cameraless Nest Hub, there is obviously no video for the recipient of your call.

When you have finished your call, you can press "End Call" on the screen or say "Hey Google" or "OK ​​Google", again and then:
