Google adds to its Play Store a new budgeting feature that will allow Android users to establish the monthly maximum that they want to spend on digital content. This applies to apps, games, movies, TV shows, music, ebooks, and more. As you approach your budget limit, you will see an alert indicating that you are approaching it or that you have exceeded the amount you specified.
This budget option has not yet been extended to everyone. When that happens, you can access it like this:
- Open the Play Store on your Android device, open the left menu, then go to the account section.
- From there, you should see a "Purchase History" tab. (If, like me, you only see "Order History", you can not use the budget feature for now, I hope the deployment will not take too much time.)
- Choose the "Set Budget" option and enter the amount you're willing to spend on your apps, music, movies, TV shows, and eBooks for a month. Then click on "Save". Your budget can always be adjusted or removed from this same screen.
As Google notes, setting a budget does nothing to prevent purchases or subscriptions on your Google Play account once you've exceeded it. This feature is designed to be an easy reference for tracking and profiting from your expenses; It does not impose strict restrictions as Google's Family Link parental controls can. Another thing to know is that you can only set budgets in the currency in the country to which your Google Play profile is linked.
