Starting today, you can take Google Assistant's "tell me a story" feature with you.
The feature launched for Google Home last year lets you say "Hey Google, tell me a story" to get your Google Home, Mini, Hub or Max to tell your child quickly. Now, this same feature is available for iOS and Android devices.
To obtain it, you simply need to make sure that the latest version of Google Assistant is installed on your device.
Once you have the latest version, hearing a story is as simple as telling your phone "Hey Google, tell me a story" or "Hey Google, tell me a story at bedtime," if you're trying to 39 bring the children to go to sleep already.
Google is launching this feature this week in anticipation of the national Tell a Story Day on April 27.
You can always ask your Google Home to tell you a story, of course. Google Home also offers a feature called "Continuous Playback" that lets you play back the sound effects of certain books as you play them. It was launched last October, but did not receive much attention.
For the sound effects feature to work, you must have one of the supported books, which are all Little Golden Books related to Disney. The sounds are synchronized as you read and can move forward or backward with you or even pause while you discuss what you have just read. Once you have one of the supported books, you activate the feature by saying "Hey Google, let's read with Disney."
The feature only works on Google Home devices, not smartphones, but on many Disney titles including classics such as Peter Pan, Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland, as well as new favorites such as Frozen, Coco and Moana.
If nothing else, this feature "tell me a story" on mobile could help you entertain the kids for a few extra minutes on your next shopping trip.
