How Trump and Biden celebrate Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving looks a little different in 2020, even for President Trump and President-elect Joe Biden.

The current Commander-in-Chief spent Thursday morning golfing at his Trump National Golf Club, a short drive from the White House. After playing golf, he returned home, where he is expected to participate in a video call with the military over the Thanksgiving vacation.

He will then have dinner with his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, and son Barron at the White House.

Biden, meanwhile, is crouched down in his beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Del., Alongside his wife, Jill. The two are joined by daughter Ashley Biden and husband Howard Kerin.

In their video remarks to celebrate the holidays, the two said they will be having Thanksgivings separated from the rest of their family due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I have a big family you’ve probably heard a lot about,” Biden joked in a virtual meeting with healthcare workers last week, “We do it all together.”

The only thing they aren’t going to do, the president-elect said, is get together for the holidays.

For Trump and Biden, their days are certainly different from previous years.

Trump has spent almost every Thanksgiving of his presidency at his “Winter White House,” his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.

Last year, he made a surprise visit to Afghanistan to serve Thanksgiving dinner to American troops. He had attempted to surprise troops in Iraq the year before, but his cover was blown when Air Force One was detected by an amateur flight watcher.

Regarding changes to this year’s plans, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said in an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday that the president made the adjustments because he was “on the job. “.

“The President’s hard work on COVID, among other things, is reducing the number of our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, bringing our men and women home. He works hard, so he stays here in the White House, and it will be a beautiful Thanksgiving for him and the first lady here in the White House, ”said the spokeswoman for Trump.

As for Vice President Pence and Vice President-elect Harris, the two do not have events on their public schedules in light of the holiday.

Harris, however, will celebrate the holiday in the nation’s capital with her husband Douglas Emhoff, she said at an event in Washington on Wednesday.

It was believed that Pence would likely travel to Sanibel, Florida, where he had previously had a family vacation, for the holidays. Although he didn’t end up making it to the Sunshine State, his final plans were not known to the public.
