Uber has just launched a function that ensures the safety of the passenger and the driver by keeping track of irregularities encountered during the trip.
How does Uber's RideCheck work?
On Tuesday, Uber launched RideCheck, a feature that tracks the route of an Uber vehicle. Once the system has detected an irregularity in the vehicle's route, it sends a push notification to the driver and the passenger.
With the help of GPS, when detecting a change of route or stopping of the car, the system requests separately to the driver and the passenger, via push notification, they need help. Driver and passenger can now respond if they have problems and need help or not.
Other Uber safety features
After receiving and responding to the push notification sent via RideCheck, the driver or passenger can now use other existing Uber security features. They can call 911 using the emergency button on the app. To report an accident, they can also contact the Uber security phone line. It can also be their platform to share their trip with their friends by sharing online.
Over the past three years, Uber has introduced an innovation after another to ensure the safety of their customers. One of them was to anonymize the pickup and return of the runners so that the trip could be shared with family and friends.
Hundreds of passenger safety issues have been reported
Uber's RideCheck could be the carpool giant's response to the growing number of complaints about passenger safety concerns. Lawsuits have been filed by passengers in California, Colorado, Massachusetts and Texas for rape, kidnapping, forced fumbling, assault during amusement rides and even alleged sexual assaults by drivers.
Security features of other companies
Besides Uber, you will also find a list of other rideshare companies that define their security features. Lyft plans to add and upgrade its existing security feature called Smart Travel Recording to ensure the safety of their passengers.
Fourteen women filed lawsuits against Lyft drivers earlier this month for presumption of sexual assault. The complaint also alleges the existence of 100 other reports of sexual assault committed between May 2015 and May 2016.
