NEW YORK – Yankees third baseman DJ LeMahieu was shaken. He was not far off when left fielder Tim Locastro made a spectacular catch and then suffered an injury that ended his season on Sunday night.
Locastro’s jumping catch into foul territory in the first inning was a highlighted pinball trick. But when he slammed his right knee against the wall, he tore his ACL. He remained in the game the rest of the set, but was replaced the next frame.
“I feel for him,” LeMahieu said after the rain-cut 3-1 win over the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. “It was a hell of a catch. I got up and I always started it, I saved a race. Stayed in the game. He’s a beast. Visibly disappointed. I hear he’s in pain, but it looks like he’s in a good mood. But, yeah, good catch.

Locastro is a longtime Yankees fan who New York acquired on July 1 after Clint Frazier was put on the injured list. Locastro, a product of Ithaca College, grew up in upstate New York and played nine games with the Yankees.
Manager Aaron Boone said the Yankees had not decided how they could replace Locastro on Sunday.
“We’ll talk about that and how we want to go here in the short term. We will have this conversation right away, ”he said after the game.
The Yankees have three main options to replace Locastro.
The most obvious decision would be to call on central prospect Estevan Florial, since he is already on the list of 40 players. Then again, it would be an easy decision to put Locastro on the 60 Day Injury List and open up a spot on the list that could go to Ryan LaMarre.
LaMarre and Florial are both at Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre. LaMarre, 30, has played three games this season with the Yankees. He reached 0.310 in 31 games at Triple-A. Florial, 22, has played one game in the big leagues this season and has only reached 0.213 in 42 Triple-A games. The Yankees may prefer to keep him at Triple-A as the trade deadline draws near, being careful to put him against more advanced big-league pitchers.
Finally, they can call any number of lifters in case they are needed during the garbage period.
