PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Eagles season is officially over. For many fans, that day couldn’t come soon enough. But now we have questions and a lot of scratching left.
The organization is at a crossroads with its current decision-making structure.
It feels like if they can’t get it right in 2021, changes could happen.
In a game where many questioned the integrity of a quarterback decision, Doug Pederson doubled up.
“Nate [Sudfeld] is a guy who is very capable of running our system and running it and the ability to pull this game last night, ”Pederson said Monday.
Sudfeld’s 5 of 12 interest-free passes for 32 yards and one pick secured the sixth overall pick for a franchise that has only picked one Pro Bowler since 2014 – Carson Wentz, the current alternate quarterback.
“It’s something we have to hit in the sixth pick in the draft in a huge and huge way. I think we have the right people to do it, ”said Managing Director Howie Roseman.
Roseman is now in the hot seat. The Eagles have regressed in every season since the Super Bowl in 2017, Roseman admitting that this list is clearly not what it once was.
“I’m going to do whatever is in the best interests of this team to get this team back to being a sustainable playoff team. I don’t worry about my job. It doesn’t concern me, it’s out of my hands. I’m worried about doing the best and right to make this team come back, ”said Roseman.
A cleanup of the organization is needed, he says, to look for better ways of doing things to improve a 4-11-1 campaign. And perhaps in a self-preservation statement, Roseman highlighted the Eagles’ record since Pederson’s arrival.
“Just because you’re having a bad time doesn’t mean you’re not good at your job or that you have a bad process,” Roseman said.
Roseman also said they have no internal discussions about Carson Wentz’s trade. But the pressure to understand this situation will be relentless.
