Huawei just can not take a break, which is not really a surprise given the pressure he's under. Of course, US companies are also under the same pressure to break their ties with the Chinese company. The most recent association to give to Huawei without ceremony, at least from the point of view of foreigners, is the SD Association, which means that Huawei is practically forbidden to manufacture products, including smartphones, with slots for SD or microSD cards.
On the one hand, the Android world has taken steps to remove storage extensions via microSD cards. On the other hand, it did not gain much traction, even on high-end phones that dropped the older 3.5mm headphone jack. This development endangers the mid-range and lower phones of Huawei and Honor, which generally have relatively small storage space.
The SD association, which develops and authorizes the use of SD storage and product standards, is only the latest to cut ties with Huawei. Like most other companies, the company has made no public announcement about it. The sudden and silent disappearance of Huawei's name from the list of member companies, however, is more telling than any press release.
Huawei may have seen the writing on ZTE's bankruptcy wall and developed its nanoSD or NM card technology exactly because of that. However, we still do not know how much this will affect this new technology that is still not easily accessible, even for Huawei's phones. The company will certainly have to increase its production and lower the prices of the cards to meet the new demand that it will face.
Even with the ability to produce its own mobile chips and its own storage card technology, Huawei is slowly losing ground in the smartphone manufacturing space. Losing the ARM support will put it in an even more precarious situation and Huawei could quickly get out of the mobile phone market.
