Huawei may have found a buyer for its Honor smartphone business

Huawei and Honor representatives offered us a standard “no comment”.

After several years of ever-harsher sanctions, Huawei is becoming somewhat of an outcast in the West, prevented from working with several key partners. This includes Google, for the Google Play layer on Android and, most importantly, TSMC, the Taiwanese chipmaker with advanced manufacturing capabilities. Honor, despite protests that it is a separate company, is under the same regime as its parent company.

It’s likely that a sale will mean, at least in theory, that she can, once again, use affiliate technology and software in the United States. If, at least, regulators are happy with the sufficient distance between the company and its former parent company.
