Citing a source familiar with the subject, a report from Engadget claims that Huawei, which has so far refused to sell its modems and processors to one of its competitors, is now open to the exclusive sale of its Balong 5000 5G modem chipsets to Apple.

"Balong is mainly aimed at supporting Huawei's intelligent products, such as phones and IoT products, and is currently reserved for Huawei's internal use," said a company representative at Mobile World Congress this year.
However, Huawei's amazing change of heart comes at a time when Apple is going through a difficult period with Intel, its only modems provider. And even with all the optical and political considerations, a working relationship between Huawei and Apple could actually benefit both companies.
"Clearly, Apple keeps an open mind about the modems that it could use, and Huawei is open to the idea of an agreement. At this point, however, it is unclear whether the companies engaged in conversations. Neither Huawei nor Apple responded to requests for comments at the time of publication.
If Intel no longer has confidence in Apple, Qualcomm is not yet an option, any more than Samsung and Mediatek for now. And although Huawei's offer could provide Apple with the necessary components for the release of an iPhone 5G in 2020, do you think that an Apple-Huawei agreement would finally be reached?
