Huawei OS would have been "far from ready" after the ban of Android

Huawei is still "far from ready" to launch its own operating system, according to a report.

The internal project launching a Huawei operating system "has had its ups and downs and remains far from ready," sources told The Information.

Google has blocked Huawei from Android updates earlier this week. Tuesday, the US Department of Commerce awarded the Chinese technology giant a three-month general license update existing devices, temporarily easing Huawei's access restrictions to US components and software embedded in its phones.

Despite Google's ban, Huawei said Tuesday that his latest smartphone, the Honor Pro 20, will use Android.

CNET understands that Huawei has no immediate intention to launch its own operating system and plans to launch it only if Android is permanently removed as an option for its smartphone customers.

More than a year ago, CNET's sister site, TechRepublic, announced that Huawei was working on its own operating system since 2012, in case it would be banned from Android.

Last week, the The US government blacklisted Huawei's network equipment and President Donald Trump signed a decree prohibiting society. Microsoft also reportedly removed Huawei MateBook laptops from its online store.
