Huawei P30 Pro's new leak on specifications reveals the secrets of the 10x zoom camera

We're still a few days away from Huawei's official announcement of its new flagship P30 Pro and P30, but the steady stream of phone leaks has quickly turned into a flood. WinFuture revealed the full specifications of both devices, as well as official public relations images.

The most interesting novelty still seems to be the camera of the P30 Pro, which Huawei bangs with a fashionable camera system that promises a 10x zoom. according to WinFuture, this figure 10 times touted is obtained thanks to the hybrid zoom. Using a periscope system, the P30 Pro has a focal length equivalent to 135mm for an optical zoom of 7.8x, which is combined with the software enhancements and data from the main camera sensor to reach the 10x figure. In addition, the P30 Pro has a main lens of 40 megapixels f / 1.6, a 20 megapixel f / 2.2 wide-angle lens and a small ToF (time of flight) sensor located at the back, under the flash, for the collection of depth data.

There is also a larger OLED screen that measures 6.47 inches, with a smaller teardrop notch and curved Samsung-style sides. The new set of front-facing cameras looks smaller: there is no infrared sensor like the P20 Pro used for its 3D face unlock function (although the P30 Pro still supports the face unlocking, though probably less secure) and no speaker grille, which will apparently be replaced by the vibration of the OLED panel, similar to other phones like the LG G8. The P30 Pro will also offer an integrated fingerprint sensor for other biometric security options.

The processor is Huawei's latest Kirin 980 octa-core chipset, with 8GB of RAM, and storage options of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB (expandable via Huawei's NanoMemory cards), with a battery of 4,200 mAh and IP68 water resistance. The P30 Pro lacks a headphone jack as well as any 5G support, but this is not surprising given the advanced life cycle of next-generation network technology.

Huawei also updates the standard P30 model: its slightly larger 6.1-inch OLED screen (also with a teardrop-shaped notch but no curved sides) and a three-camera system. (The standard P20 had a dual camera system.) Huawei also gave in to the specifications: it will have the same Kirin 980 processor as its older brother, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and a battery of 3,650 mAh. It lacks some of the most interesting parts of the P30 Pro: no 10x zoom, no fourth ToF camera and no vibrating OLED screen, although it still offers features such as the built-in fingerprint sensor and the IP68 water resistance. Unlike the P30 Pro, it appears that the standard P30 retains the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Huawei is expected to reveal the entire P30 family of phones on March 26. Despite the leaks, there may still be a surprise or two to come (with the usual things like the price and the release date).
