Huawei P50 launch officially confirmed for July 29

We recently reported a Weibo leak hinting that Huawei’s new flagship lineup, the The Huawei P50 series could be officially launched at an event on July 29. This rumor has just been officially confirmed today, directly from the company (thanks to MyFixGuide).

The mobile phone company announced this morning that the event was indeed scheduled for Thursday July 29 at 7:30 p.m. Chinese Standard Time (which is equivalent to 6.30 a.m. central time). On that date, everything will finally be unveiled on the new series, which will most likely consist of the Huawei P50 Pro, the Huawei P50 Pro and probably a Huawei P50 Pro Plus.

In May, there had been a Short-lived rumor that the P50 line could see the light of day at Huawei’s Spring Event (Huawei Smart Collaboration’s Spring Conference on May 17), but it was not, as it will eventually end up being hold the official summer event instead.

A new era for Huawei with Harmony OS

The launch of this series is going to be something special, as they will be the first devices from Huawei to originally ship with an internal operating system, Harmony OS.
“HarmonyOS is built on a distributed operating system architecture to run on different devices and that’s part of Huawei’s all-scenario strategy,” Huawei says on its website. “This new operating system is adaptable for mobile office, fitness and health, social communication, multimedia entertainment and more.”
Huawei also promised it would update around 100 of its devices to run Harmony OS last month, including the Huawei P40 series, Mate 40 series, Mate 30 series, and more. The company hopes to have over 100 million active HarmonyOS users as the end goal.

The P50 series should have some impressive specs

It was originally thought that the P50 series would sport the Kirin 9000, the second 5nm chip used on a smartphone, but that might not happen. An American ban could make that impossible due to shortened supplies, and there is a rumor that the P50 range may instead feature a new 4G version of the flagship Snapdragon 888 processor, named the Snapdragon 888 Pro.

Huawei’s P50 model comes with 6/8 GB of memory and 128/256 GB of storage.

The P50 range can also feature different display curvatures, with the base model P50 sporting less curved glass, almost flat on the sides (much like the Galaxy S20 and S20 +), while the P50 Pro will sport a cascading screen with aggressive curved sides (similar to the Mate 40 Pro). The P50 Pro Plus is said to have a curved quad screen.

The Huawei P50 is expected to have a 6.1-6.2-inch AMOLED display, the P50 Pro with a 6.6-inch AMOLED display and a 6.8-inch AMOLED for the P50. Pro Plus.

The battery life would be 4000mAh for the P50 model, 4200mAh for the P50 Pro and 4500mAh for the P50 Pro +.

Of course, we expect full specs to be revealed or confirmed in all their glory on the Huawei P50’s official launch date of July 29.
