Huawei should fire hundreds of American workers

Chinese telecommunications company Huawei is set to lay off hundreds of workers in the United States, the newspaper reports The Wall Street Journal. The company has struggled in recent months after the Trump government effectively banned US sales to the company, citing potential security threats and in the midst of the current trade war between the United States and China. .

According to WSJHuawei plans to fire workers at a research subsidiary called Futurewei Technologies, which operates several research labs. Huawei would give some Chinese employees the opportunity to return to China to stay within the company. Apparently some employees have already been informed that they would be fired and other layoffs are expected in the near future.

In May, the White House issued a decree authorizing the US Secretary of Commerce to allow the United States to prevent US companies from selling to entities designated as posing a threat to national security. As a result, Huawei is no longer able to buy some of the parts and software that it needs for its products. Although Huawei had the impression that its sale ban last month suspended it, the Trump administration said things would probably not change until the two countries settled their differences.
