Huge Fallout: Frontier mod launches today

Fallout: The Frontier is a huge expansion size mod for Fallout: New Vegas that has been in the works for years now. It adds an entirely new map area and storyline to New Vegas set in the snow-capped Portland Desert where three new factions are at war. The big project is launched today and it looks like people are excited to play it.

“The Frontier is an open world, similar in size to the DC wasteland, with a completely snow-capped Portland Oregon, complete with landmarks and real-life locations,” the creators explain. They say the changed expansion takes place around the same time frame as Fallout: New Vegas itself, so you’re going to take your familiar courier up north to investigate a new conflict.

In the wasteland of Oregon, you’ll find a group of exiled NCR soldiers fighting a Nordic faction of the Legion and a few refugees from the Brotherhood of Steel. You can see the new trailer above, in which the three faction leaders explain why they are fighting in the snow.

You can find additional details on The Frontier’s website and it’s pretty impressive. The creators say there are three main questlines and a good number of side quests, which also add boss fights, new enemies, new creatures, and extra energy weapons. On top of that, it all includes voice acting, which is always an accomplishment for a huge modding project.

You can download Fallout: The Frontier on Nexus Mods or on Steam. Please be patient with this Nexus link, however. Nexus alerted players through their Discord server that “the steady Friday night traffic and massive interest in Fallout: The Frontier combined are really hammering our servers.”

Enjoy the north coast, couriers. Don’t all rush at the same time.
