Hugh Grant has revealed that he and his wife Anna Eberstein contracted coronavirus in February, describing his symptoms as a ‘sweat poncho’ and a sensation as if ‘Harvey Weinstein was sitting on his chest’.

The actor, 60, explained that he still had antibodies for COVID-19 when he tested a month ago while discussing the virus during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

He said: ‘It started out as a very strange syndrome where I continued to sweat terribly.

It was like a sweat poncho, really embarrassing. Then my eyeballs looked three sizes too big and it … felt like a huge man was sitting on my chest, Harvey Weinstein or someone.

He added: “ I had an antibody test only a month ago. I still have those antibodies, so I know that was it.

Hugh has admitted he feels ‘proud’ of his antibodies and hopes he won’t contract the life-threatening virus again in the future.

The Undoing star revealed that he started to panic when unable to smell anything, around the time doctors began to link him to a symptom of coronavirus.

Hugh tried to sniff strong scents such as flowers and his wife’s Chanel No.5 performance, but couldn’t smell any.

The actor shares three young children with his wife, Swedish television producer Anna, including a son John, eight, and a daughter, four, whose name is not known.

He keeps a close eye on his privacy and has not disclosed the gender of his youngest child, born in 2018.

Hugh also has two other children with his occasional former ex-girlfriend, receptionist Tinglan Hong, daughter Tabitha, nine, and son Felix, seven.

The Notting Hill star described fatherhood as ‘the worst and best’ time of her life when she spoke to The Radio Times.

He said: ‘Anyone with young children would probably agree that this is both the worst time of your life and the best. Day to day, as you step on another broken toy with a hangover, it’s just awful.

“But when you look at the photos on your iPhone, you realize, ‘Oh, I was extremely happy. It looks nice “.”

Hugh, who stars as a father in the new miniseries The Undoing, had five children in nine years after leading a carefree life.

But the Four Weddings and A Funeral actor previously told Virgin Radio that his perceptions of having children were ‘dead wrong’ when he was single.

He said, “Children, you know. I used to roll my eyes. People were like, “Oh Hugh, you don’t understand”, but they were right.

In September 2011, his then-girlfriend Tinglan, a receptionist, gave birth to his daughter Tabitha. A year after Tabitha was born, he had a son, John, with Anna.

The following year, he broke up with Anna and found Tinglan, with whom he had Felix.

“I had a child every Thursday recently,” he remarked dryly at the time.

In December 2015, back with Anna, he had his fourth, a second daughter, whose name was not disclosed.

He and Anna went on to have another child, also heretofore anonymous in public, in early 2018 and married in May this year.
