The Padres were watching the Dodgers closely. The Padres should really have won all three games Sunday afternoon. Hunter Renfroe instead helped save the series finale with perhaps the most exciting baseball game: a grand slam without a walk-in.
The explosion, which broke through 429 feet according to StatCast, was a while. As mentioned before, this really spared the Padres an unbearable weekend.
Friday: The Padres led, 3-0, through four innings. The Dodgers had a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh place, before Kirby Yates, closer, abandoned the race to go from the beginning to the ninth.
Saturday: The Padres had a 3-1 lead of five before they earned a five-point lead over the Dodgers at the top of the sixth. Nevertheless, the Padres fought back with three of theirs in the lower half of the inning to tie the game. Yates then allowed the fire to launch after a single march, a shot, a strike and a walk.
Sunday: The Padres were up 4-0 with four innings. The Dodgers then scored three points at the top of the fifth inning and Chris Taylor scored a two-point run at the top of the eighth.
It would have been such a tough series, especially as the Padres only played one and a half games with the hope of taking first place. At least Renfroe helped save Sunday's victory.
