At least three US carriers operating between the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay (St James) were canceled due to Hurricane Dorian.

Several flights departing from Lynden Pindling International Airport in the Bahamas have also been canceled.

Hurricane Dorian, a Category 4 storm, is now hitting parts of the Bahamas as he slowly heads to the east coast of South Florida, including West Palm Beach, Port St Lucie and Orlando.

Spirit, Southwest and JetBlue airlines canceled a total of five flights to Montego Bay, while InterCaribbean, based in Turks and Caicos, canceled a flight between Montego Bay and Kingston.

In a press release, MBJ Airports Limited asked its customers to contact their airlines directly to re-book or obtain additional information.

"MBJ Airports Limited also recommends that industry partners contact the airlines about air operations before transporting guests to the airport," a spokesman said.

Meanwhile, NMIA Airports Limited, operator of Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA), reports that at least 10 flights have been canceled between Fort Lauderdale and Kingston due to the storms of Hurricane Dorian.

The cancellations affected flights operated by Spirit, Jet Blue and Caribbean Airlines.

Canceled flights:

MIND: NK723, NK1745, NK702 and NK1746.

BLUE JET: B6875, B61676, B62076, B6876.

Caribbean Airlines: BW036 and BW033.

Passengers booked on canceled flights are advised to contact their travel agent or the airline's customer support number for booking options.

The NMIA indicated that it was monitoring the movements of Hurricane Dorian and had noted its impact on the countries of the region as well as its planned route to the destinations served by the airport.
