This is what people in the Southeast can expect, according to the latest forecasts.

Florida

Dorian will be closest to Florida Tuesday night until Wednesday morning when it will approach Cape Canaveral as a Category 3 hurricane.

Floods, winds up to 80 mph, and storm surges will be the main threats to the east coast of Florida over the next few days.

Storm surge could reach 7 feet from West Palm Beach in Jacksonville.

The National Hurricane Center also warns Monday against a tornado in Florida.

"Hurricane Dorian is the most violent storm ever to threaten the state of Florida on the east coast," said Jared Moskowitz, director of Florida's Division of Emergency Management. "No matter how far this storm goes, our state will be affected."

Hurricane warnings are in effect from North West Palm Beach to Cape Canaveral.

A hurricane watch was issued for Daytona and Jacksonville, while a tropical storm was issued for Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.

Mandatory evacuations were ordered in parts of Martin, Palm Beach, St. Lucia, Brevard, St. Johns, Volusia, Duval, Indian River and Nassau Counties.

"People must remain vigilant, if you are ordered to evacuate, you must do so," Governor Ron DeSantis said Monday. "Go out now while you have time."

Georgia

Storm surges are a major threat to the Georgia coast as Dorian heads north. It could reach 4 to 7 feet from here Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Residents of the Savannah area are invited to prepare for heavy rains, floods and high winds.

Governor Brian Kemp ordered the evacuation of residents to the east of Interstate 95 in Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Glynn, Liberty and McIntosh Counties.

South Carolina and North Carolina

Dorian should turn northeast and get closer to the Carolinas, particularly near Wilmington and up to Cape Hatteras.

At that time, Dorian should belong to category 2, which would result in a dangerous storm surge.

The largest rainfall of Dorian is expected to affect North Carolina, which could receive up to 15 inches of rain.

The governor of South Carolina issued an evacuation order for coastal residents of the state. A mandatory evacuation order was also issued Monday for the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
