JERSEY CITY, NJ – The final round of the Northern Trust tournament is postponed until Monday due to the threat of Hurricane Henri.
The PGA Tour announced on Saturday afternoon that there would be no Sunday golf at Liberty National, the site of the first FedEx Cup playoff event. Any damage to the golf course will be assessed on Sunday, with tee times for the final round announced in the afternoon.
“Based on the predicted track of Tropical Storm Henri and the tropical storm warning issued by the National Hurricane Center for the area where the Northern Trust is located, there will be no play on Sunday,” said the tour in a press release.
The National Hurricane Center issued a warning late Saturday morning changing Henry from tropical storm to hurricane.
The PGA Tour will do everything possible to play all 72 holes, including the ability to complete the event on Tuesday if necessary. The next playoff event, the BMW Championship, kicks off Thursday outside of Baltimore.
While the tour didn’t say so, it’s likely the final round will see trios starting from both the first and 10th tees to finish the game earlier. The tour has indicated that departure times will not begin until 7:30 a.m. ET.
