After a few months of writing these Hurry-Ups, a common problem fans have among college football schedules is this: noon kick-offs.

Aside from the obvious reasons for the fans’ playing experience (less time to prepare, etc.), there is a very real impact that the early days of play have on recruiting. The state of Ohio’s recruiting footprint has grown significantly over the years as the Buckeyes now recruit across the country from the west to east coasts and Texas, Florida and the Deep South.

But the midday start made it difficult for non-Midwestern rookies to travel to Columbus for a game-day atmosphere. Various recruits and their families said Eleven warriors so much firsthand, and it certainly led to postponed visits from prospects who were supposed to attend the Oregon game. Still, they’re not going away anytime soon, given that noon is a prime-time window for Fox and other networks.

Ryan Day was asked Thursday if he was frustrated with the effect of the noon kickoffs on recruiting chances. Frankly, if he does, he doesn’t say it.

“I think we’re also going to have night games here,” Day said. “So I think there will be opportunities for the guys to come and visit when they want to. It’s harder for the guys from the west coast to get here for a lunchtime game, but there are still guys within driving distance who should be able to do that.There are more guys we can have on campus for a game day atmosphere, we think it’s the best game day atmosphere in the country . Hopefully there will be more opportunities as we head into October and November. But the midday kickoff is also exciting. It’s fun, and for guys who can come here, it’s obviously prime time for Fox and some of the other guys, so that’s part of the equation too. When guys can make it happen it’s obviously a huge selling point, so we want to get them here when we do. can. ”

More night games to come. Hmm. Does he know anything we don’t know about the Penn State game at the end of the month?

Young exceeds 1000 meters

Mid-season, Richard Young, a 2023 Ohio State priority five-star target, broke the 1,000 rushing yard mark. The 6-foot, 190-pound backer ranked 21st nationally and best running back in the cycle by 247Sports composite ranking reached this milestone in Lehigh High School’s 14-7 victory (Lehigh Acres, Fla.) Vs. Charlotte on Thursday.

After the win, Young credited his offensive line with helping him get there.

The contest was not without highlights from the talented tailback, of course. In this clip, he sort of jumped over one defender and then trucked in another a few seconds later.

Young has visited Columbus twice this summer and hopes to attend the Penn State game on October 30.

Abor maybe visiting OSU

The latest update on five-star defensive end Omari Abor was that he’s preparing for Ohio State, and the Buckeyes are near the top of his roster.

This week, Abor told 247Sports he plans to travel to OSU for the Penn State game on Oct. 30 and is “80 percent” sure he will be able to make the tour work.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Abor is the 18th best prospect in the 2022 class and second best defensive end. The five-star prospect hopes to decide on a school in January.
